I really miss my dad today. Opening day of baseball season. I would have called to talk to him about the games....especially if his Yankees lost. I loved rubbing that in. I'm on my way to Chris's varsity double header. We went to Pasco this weekend and he had great games. He drove in seven runs and he was the starting pitcher for the second game. He pitched through five innings. He pitched a really great game. His off speed and curve balls were really on. My dad would have loved to watch Chris play ball. I feel bad that he has missed all of that. I told Scott on the way home how much my dad would have loved to see him play those two games....Scott said "He did." I sure hope so. Well....it is opening day and if the Yankees win it is only because they have angels in their outfield. I miss you dad.

OPENING DAY
Tomorrow is the Mariners Opening Day. I wait for five long months for baseball season to arrive. I LOVE BASEBALL. I think I inherited my love for baseball from my father. I grew up watching the Yankess play the Dodgers. Back in the day I was my daddy's little girl and I was a huge Yankee fan like my dad. He'd been to a game in Yankee stadium with his grandfather and he saw Mickey Mantle play. Oh....those were the days. They had some great ones. I grew up in a divided house. My dad loved his Yankees and my mom loved her Dodgers. I really should have loved the Dodgers. My mom was pregnant with me and they went to a Dodger game and she went into labor. She told my dad she needed to go but he didn't want to leave the stadium. The great Sandy Coufax was pitching. I'm really surprised I didn't get named Sandy. Well, I moved to the pacific northwest after I got married and we went to a Marniners game and I was hooked. I've loved them ever since. I watch as many games as I can each season. Love going to see them live. Nothing better than an afternoon game with the roof open at Safeco Field and the smell of the garlic fries and the crack of a bat. Let's go Mariners.....beat Yankees.
SPRING?????
I was awakened from a dead sleep this morning by the ringing of the phone. Bro. Earl wanted to speak to Chris. I, being the wonderful mother that I am, said "He is sound asleep. He's exhausted from yesterday's games. What do you need?" He said "Well, the priests need to shovel the walks at the church if it snowed and I don't know if you know that it did." Are you kidding me? Not just a little snow....but sometime after retiring to bed lastnight the snow began to fall. On Friday it started snowing like crazy and for the first time in Moses Lake high school baseball history a game was called due to snow....it quit snowing shortly after but the fields were pretty wet. This morning's snow is another story. It is almost april. Now, I know that if you live in the mountains and you get to enjoy the magnificant beauty of those Rockies then snow in spring is something you've learned to deal with. Afterall, I did grow up in Southern Alberta and I've seen snow in every month but August. However, I don't get to see the mountains. I live in the middle of the Columbia Basin. We are in a desert. Not a lot of majestic beauty around here unless you really like tumble weeds. So, when it snows in spring I get a little ticked. I have to admit though that it is just beautiful out there this morning. The trees are covered and it is like a Christmas card.....except it is SPRING. Opening day for the Mariners tomorrow. What is going on? Enough all ready. Oh.....and I did wake Chris up and have him go shovel.

Dad calls the game.
Chris is up to bat and that umpire looks pretty familiar. It's his dad. I'm sure it is pretty nerve racking to have your boy step to the plate when you are calling the game. He did a good job though. Wasn't to hard on him. Called him out on a force at third but the third baseman pulled his foot......Chris got robbed......that umpire needs glasses.....ha ha.
Go chiefs
Chris pitched his first game of the season this weekend. He pitched a couple innings of relief. His curve ball dropped over the plate for a lot of strikes. He really worked the corners well. He really likes to pitch but gets frustrated with the lack of defense. I love to watch him play. If he isn't dirty from head to toe he doesn't feel like he's had a good game.

Dance the Night away
Well, it was a busy day for the two ball players. Chris and Shelby both had games all day on Saturday. That night was the sweethearts dance. Chris wore the tie from Carolyn's wedding and it matched Shelby's dress so perfectly people thought they'd made it from the dress. The kids went to Inca for dinner and had fun dancing and ended their evening playing guitar hero.

Batter up
Spring has arrived to the Columbia Basin and that means baseball. Chris is in full swing into ball season. They've been practicing a couple weeks and he has his first games this weekend. His girlfriend Shelby is the catcher for the highschool softball team. These two ball players have a very busy schedule. They are both so fun to watch. They put everything they have out there on the ball field. Go Chiefs! Chris plays in the outfield and he has also turned into a great relief pitcher. He has a nasty curve ball that is hard to hit.

A quick trip
We just got back from our trip to Provo. It was great to see the kids. We stayed with the newlyweds. They are very happy and it was nice to see them settled into their little apartment. There is a lot of laughter there. We finally got to meet Kevin's fiance. What a beautiful girl. She and Kevin are a perfect fit. She is such a sweetheart and she will be such a wonderful addition to our family. I got to see Stacie in her wedding dress. She will be a beautiful bride. She'll take Kevin's breath away. We are all excited about the upcoming wedding. We went to SLC on Sunday and had a wonderful visit with Aunt Marie. Kelly and Cory came too so we had a houseful. Aunt Marie looks so much like her sister, Grandma Jackson, and it always brings back pleasant memories of grandma when we see her. The trip was quick but it was well worth it. It makes a mother happy to see her children happy and at peace.

She is a sweet and fun girl. We are so excited to have her in our family. It will be nice to have another girl. Carolyn and I have been out numbered.
